From Carnegie Hall to the Purple Onion, he has performed Jazz with John Abercrombie, Jane Ira Bloom, Eddie Gomez, Jay Clayton, Bennie Wallace and Oregon, World Music with Kanai Dutta, Francisco Aguabella, Geetha Ramanathan and Glen Velez, and New Music with Steve Reich. His compositions and performances have been recorded on the ECM, Vanguard, Inner City, AudioQuest, Music of the World and NAXOS labels. He has received grants for his creative work from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the NEA/Arts International, Meet the Composer, the California Arts Council, and is the recent recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship in music composition. He has performed solo piano concerts of original music (and with his piano/bass/three world percussion ensemble, The Combination) throughout the United States in addition to festival appearances in Canada, Europe, and South Africa. more info on Larry: <a href="http://www.larrykarush.com">www.larrykarush.com</a> Grammy-nominated Art Lande is considered one of the premiere improvisational jazz pianists today. He began piano at age 4, studied at Williams College & moved to San Francisco in 1969. He has mostly carved out his own singular path throughout his career, taking the innovations of Bill Evans several steps further. In 1973 he recorded with Jan Garbarek and Ted Curson and in the mid-1970's had started his own jazz school. In 1976 he formed the quartet Rubisa Patrol which recorded for ECM and lasted until 1983. After teaching for three years in Switzerland, Lande in 1987 moved to Boulder, Colorado. The music that results from this environment is subtle and powerful, simple then complex, familiar and then singularly unusual. Colorful improvisations lead to pieces by Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, the Beatles or perhaps an original in 5/4 or 7/4 time. The audience is encouraged to bring pillows and close friends to relax with and listen to music where the spaces between the notes are as potent as the notes themselves. In a world where often too much is going on too quickly, Cuddle brings the listener to a place where sounds is precious and a wide range of musical events can be anticipated, fully explored and savored. Traveling between original compositions, open improvisation and reinvented jazz standards, there is much diversity of texture and mood. All three musicians are adept at at rhythmic interplay and metric explorations, giving the music an exciting edge. The seamless flow from piece to piece gives the feeling of a sonic journey.   Each member of the group has extensive international experience. Burhoe, a long time student of the great Zakir Hussein, is currently very active in the Indian classical music scene. He tours in Australia, Japan, and Europe, as well as in the USA. His more Westernized musical forays have been with Bill Douglas and Curandero. Weidenmueller performs regularly with pianist Kenny Werner, Ari Honig and Madeline Peroux. His German heritage meshes with 15 years in New York City plus two years in the wild west of Colorado and have contributed to a perspective linking the visceral and the refined sensibilities. His wonderful technique is used to communicate a poetic spirit. Lande is a romantic trickster drawn to serious fun. He has deep roots in the jazz tradition that mix with his love for the 12 tone and bitonal possibilities in New Music (a la Stravinsky and Hindemith). Typhoon speaks many languages, sometimes simultaneously. The weather can be beautiful, sunny and calm, but beware of dark swirling storms that blow in from their imaginative sea. It is a listening experience that puts the audience's ears on its toes. After teaching for three years in Switzerland, Lande moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he played a weekly performance for 15 years! Through his teacher's inspiration, he has established new territory for the tabla which continues to attract international acclaim. Ty is known for his sensitive accompaniment and melodious style. While his study of the classical tradition and his touring as a classical accompanist continues to grow, he is also internationally recognized for being instrumental in creating unusual collaborations that weave tabla with the traditions of Jazz, African, Flamenco, Rock, Celtic, Chinese, Bluegrass, and fusion. He has become well known not only for his talents as a tabla player, but also for his extensive experience as a recording and live concert producer. In 2004, he created the record label, Tala Records, and since 1994 has run a concert production company called Tala Productions. He has been a member of the Hank Jones trio, Ray Barretto's new world spirit, the Carl Allen-Vincent Herring quintet, the John Abercrombie quartet, and the Joe Lovano trio. Other associations include Eddie Henderson, Dewey Redman, Randy Brecker, Kenny Wheeler, Toots Thielemans, George Benson, Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Gary Bartz, Jonny Coles, Clifford Jordan, Joe Chambers, and many others. He has appeared at most of the major jazz and music festivals around the world and has collaborated in productions with the National orchestra of Spain, the Balthasar Neumann orchestra and choir, Flamenco musician Chano Dominguez, the Indian music ensemble of Gaurav Madzumdar. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants including the young European jazz artist of the year award in 1993 and 1996, the Hennessey jazz prize 1996, grants from Arts international and the New School faculty development grant. As an educator, Johannes has been on the faculty of the New School of jazz and contemporary music program since 1997 where he teaches bass and ensemble. He also is a member of the faculty at the Mannes college of music and has taught workshops and clinics at the Banff Center for the arts, NYU, U of Green Bay, the Amsterdam Conservatory, U of West Virginia, U of N.C Chapel Hill, Charleston College S.C, Monk Institute Aspen, Middle Tennessee State University, Cal State Bakersfield, U of Central Oklahoma, Jazz Lab in Edmond, OK, CSNM Paris, Arizona state University, Mansfield University PA, Castleton State College Vermont, and many others.
